Mullewa is set to be a winner in the new financial year with the City of 91Ï㽶µ¼º½ allocating $1.8 million to commence a variety of projects as well as upgrades.

City of 91Ï㽶µ¼º½ Mayor Shane Van Styn said he is pleased to see a healthy focus on parks and landscaping within that figure.

“The community have been asking for investment in public open spaces for some time now and I’m pleased that we’re able to make that happen in our new Budget,” he said.

“So the spend is not just solely allocated to road and footpath renewals, which has a big focus, but there are some exciting plans that are about to kick off too.

“For instance, we’re demolishing the rundown Mullewa Day Care Centre to make way for a vibrant public space – our future vision for this area is for it to be a sensory garden.”

Stage two of landscaping works at Pirrottina Park have also been given the green light, which will see lighting upgrades, a shade structure and barbecue be installed at the popular location.

Doc Docherty Pool will receive $215,000 to renew the storage shed as well as pool shell and install new shade structures; while $250,000 has been set aside to renew the Messina bore line that runs to the Mullewa Recreation Centre.

Mullewa’s heritage trails will receive a long overdue update with $50,000 to be spent on mapping and refreshing signage along the five routes.

“Attracting and retaining talent to the town remains important to us,” Mayor Van Styn added.

“It’s with this in mind that we’ll be replacing the tired and dated ‘Doctor’s House’ with a modular building after it suffered damage during Cyclone Seroja.

“This will not only aid in attraction and retention of the local GP service but it may also assist other professionals relocating to the area.”

Other investments include water tank renewals at the Mullewa Recreation Centre, reticulation at Lions Park, a kitchen update in the Mullewa Town Hall along with upgrades to the Mullewa District Office.
