Future of the Nangetty-Walkaway Bridge

The future use of the Nangetty-Walkaway Bridge located on the east side of the Walkaway Town site will be discussed during community information sessions being held during the first week of June.

Following a recent bridge inspection, part of regular infrastructure audits, concerns were raised about the capacity of the 57 year old bridge to carry heavy haulage vehicles up to RAV7.

City of 91Ï㽶µ¼º½ Mayor Shane Van Styn said changes to how the bridge will continue to be used will need to be made.

“The City has been working closely with Main Roads WA to determine solutions as to how heavy haulage vehicles can continue to use the bridge,” he said.

“To ensure the integrity of the bridge is maintained, the proposed short term solution includes narrowing the bridge lane width and significantly reducing the speed limit on the bridge.

“The medium and long term solutions that will ensure the RAV7 network through the area is maintained are still being investigated.”

More information on the short, medium and long term solutions Main Roads WA and the City are investigating for the future of the bridge will be available at the following information sessions.

Session 1: Wednesday 2 June 2021 from 5.30-6.30pm at the Walkaway Recreation Centre 6 Evans Road.

Session 2: Thursday 3 June 2021 from 5.30-6.30pm at the Function Room City Civic Centre 63 Cathedral Avenue.

Members of the community and businesses that may be impacted by the changes in the use of the Nangetty Walkaway Bridge are welcome to attend.
