Maintaining and protecting roads across the City of 91Ï㽶µ¼º½ are a top priority in the 2022/23 Budget.

Over the coming 12 months, $5.2 million will be used to repair and maintain 14.3kms of sealed roads and $1.8 million to re-sheet more than 58kms of unsealed roads which includes three intersections at Mullewa.

50kms of shoulder and swales will also be rehabilitated.

City of 91Ï㽶µ¼º½ Mayor Shane Van Styn said maintaining and protecting the largest City asset is critical to the local economy.

“Keeping 833kms of sealed roads and 1,280kms of unsealed roads in good condition so they are safe to use for drivers and their vehicles is our core business,” he said.

“Business and industry rely on a well maintained road network to provide services and move their products around the City and in and out of the region.

“91Ï㽶µ¼º½ and the steadily growing number of visitors to our region also need well maintained roads to safely move throughout the urban and rural areas.”

To assist with the ongoing road renewal costs, the City has secured $1.2 million in funding from the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure Roads to Recovery Program for general road maintenance works and $1 million from Main Roads WA Regional Road Group Funding Scheme. This will cover more than 66% of the costs towards resurfacing additional sections Chapman Valley Road, Flores Road, Goulds Road and Nangetty Walkaway Road.

“This year, we have to ensure every dollar goes as far as possible, so we’ve gone that extra mile to leverage our investment with grant funding to help cover the costs wherever possible,” he added.

The City’s ambitious footpaths program will also continue this year with 4.38kms of new  footpaths added to the existing 250km network and 1.4kms of existing footpaths renewed in the 2022/23 Financial year.
